Hi, I’m George.

I’m 22 years old – a keen musician, traveller, writer, linguist and ‘Sunday Sport Specialist’.

Back in September 2023, I decided to complete an online Master’s in law.

And, after A LOT of work, I finally passed the course in January 2025. But I couldn’t help thinking (whilst cooped up in the dark, reading my 100^th case study of the day):

‘Is this really what I want to do with my life? Devote all my time, effort and energy to work?’

So, after finishing my SQE1 exams and being allowed back into the sunshine, I signed up for an internship with a hostel in Rome.

This was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!

Yes, I loved the work – greeting travellers at reception, leading walking tours around the city, and hosting numerous events at the bar (karaoke being my favourite) – but this experience also taught me soooo much about myself.

Dreams, skills, self-improvements, experiences, friendships, relationships – I started to understand what I truly valued.

Some was learnt through experience and self-reflection, but A LOT came from the people I met.

As any volunteer will know, it’s not easy meeting so many people and saying goodbye not long after.

But the guests, staff and fellow volunteers opened my eyes to what I really want out of my life and inspired me into realising:

Going back to England, getting a 9-5 corporate job and fixating on money for the next 40 years – that isn’t what I want. That isn’t going to help me achieve my dreams and ambitions.
